Getting Ready To Slay a Beast

This year will yield my first ever Spartan Race Trifecta.  A Trifecta being the completion of a Sprint, Super, and Beast in a calendar year.  This time last year, I didn't even know what a Trifecta was, much less have aspirations on completing one.  And now, here we are only a few days away from the Beast.

The Beast is the final piece of the Trifecta for us this year, and it is going down!  I'm feeling pretty good.  My mileage is up, but admittedly probably not as high as it should be, and I feel adequately strong.  How I'll feel Saturday is another thing, but we'll see.

People look at you funny when you tell them how excited you are to go run a race like this.  They say, "how long?" and "you're wet and there's obstacles?" with a puzzled look on their faces.  I don't really blame them though.  When you think about it, it does seem a little strange.  That's even more reason to love it for me.  I can dig strange.

So if you think about it, say a little prayer for all us Spartans this weekend as we battle our Beast.  We will slay it.  We are after all, Spartans!  Aroo, Aroo, AROO!

Changing Directions

It's been a while since I posted here, and much has changed in that time.  Writing has taken a backseat to other interests in my life, but that's life, right?

My new interests includes a lot of working out.  I'm not a gym rat though.  Far from it!  I tried the gym, and let me tell ya, it's not for me.  Outside is where it's at.  I've fallen in love with running again, after several years off.  I prefer trails, but that's not always possible, so the pavement gets pounded just as much as the dirt.

It's not all running though.  To keep my strength up, I do a lot of body weight exercises, burpees, push-ups, pull-ups, and the like along with a little weight training.

You may wonder why the sudden change?  That's easy.  I've fallen in love with Obstacle Course Racing.  To be more specific, Spartan Racing.  My life has changed since that first Spartan Race we ran last October.  I believe it has changed for the better.

I may find the time to write again.  That would be awesome.  As for now though, I'm going to keep on running, working out, and eating right (most of the time).  Come back here for updates on fitness, diet, and life in general.

Thanks for stopping by.  AROO!
